Carnosaur
A Carnosaur is a huge reptilian carnivore native to the steaming jungles of Lustria and the Southlands. [2a]
Appearance
Carnosaurs stand several meters tall on two muscular legs. They have clawed hands used for grasping prey, and large mouths full of razor sharp teeth designed to rip chunks of flesh off their enormous prey. [1a]
Ecology and Habitat
Carnosaurs are apex predators who stalk the dark jungles and ravenously devour anything they find. They will prey on all other creatures in their territories, but their preferred quarry are the large primordial herd animals that share their homelands. Carnosaurs are some of the few predators that will attack the equally dangerous Stegadons. Once a Carnosaur tastes blood, it goes into an uncontrollable feeding frenzy.[1a][2a]
Most living Carnosaurs live in the jungles of Lustria, and many also roam in the Southlands. Some have followed prey from the Southlands into Araby or the Badlands. Rarely, Carnosaurs are found frozen in the glaciers Naggaroth or Norsca, having been entombed there during the climate shifts caused when the Slann moved the continents at the Old Ones' command. Eggs have even been sold into the cities of the Old World. [2a]
Lizardmen
Rarely, Skink hunters manage to steal a Carnosaur egg and return to their Temple-City so that it can be incubated, although this is exceptionally dangerous as a Carnosaur mother is extremely protective. Raising the hatchlings is also difficult, as newborns are vicious and can bite an unwary skink in half. [3a]
They can become accustomed to a war-harness and even taking direction from a rider, but only the most powerful Saurus can control them. [3a] As such, only Saurus such ase Saurus Oldbloods or Saurus Scar-Veterans take these beasts as mounts. [1a]
