Naggaroth (meaning "Land of Chill") is the region to the far north of the New World. It is the realm of the Dark Elves. "Naggaroth" sometimes also refers by extension to the entire continent.
The region was settled by the Dark Elves thousands of years ago following their defeat in the Elven civil war, and was established as their realm under Malekith the Witchking.
The realm of Naggaroth surrounds the inland Sea of Malice. The landscape is cold, bleak and inhospitable. Towards the south of the region, the soil becomes fertile enough to support gloomy pine forests. Delineating Naggaroth's northern borders with the Chaos Wastes are the range of watchtowers which guards the lands further south from the marauding warbands of Chaos.
A great, barren range of mountains called the Blackspine Mountains divides the whole continent into the eastern region, which the Dark Elves inhabit, and the western regions along the western coast.
Naggaroth has six heavily-fortified cities:
- Naggarond, the Tower of Cold, is the capital of the realm. It is the stronghold and fortress of Malekith.
- Ghrond, the North Tower
- Karond Kar, the Tower of Despair
- Hag Graef, the Dark Crag
- Har Ganeth, City of Executioners
- Clar Karond, the Tower of Doom
