Yin-Tuan was captain of a war junk of Cathay who reached Lustria after being blown off course by a Typhoon. He would later become captain of the Palace Guard. [1a]

History

Yin-Tuan was trained in the martial arts at the school of Master Po. [1a]

He had the Imperial Dragon tattooed onto his back in an opium house in Fu-Chow. [1a]

Around the year 1690 IC, the Emperor Wu sent a fleet to conquer and colonise the Southlands. The fleet of a thousand ships was scattered by a typhoon shortly after it set sail and Yin-Tuans war junk was blown into the deep ocean. [1a]

After two months at sea, with half of his crew dead, he finally sighted land and quickly made camp, feasting on the local fruits until they had recovered their strength. A party sent to explore inland found a strange statue of what appeared to be a Lizard-Daemon. Yin-Tuan gathered all 123 of his men and informed them that his charts and astronomical observations had told him that they were on the other side of the world sphere from their home. He countered the resultant despair by reminding them such lizard-daemons inhabited the Southlands and therefore they could not far from the rest of the invincible army dispatched by the Emperor! [1a]

Yin-Tuan therefore led his men inland where they soon found a vast but ruined stone pyramid - and they made camp at its highest point. Yet when they awoke next morning, the entire clearing was suddenly invaded by thousands of Lizardmen! They stayed quiet and hidden and the next morning, the lizardmen had all gone. Avoiding the obvious trail where they had departed, Yin-Tuan led his men in the direction of the rising sun for the next few days before they were attacked by several hundred lizardmen. They effectively used their shields and crossbows and managed to drive them away. [1a]

However they were then attacked by a much bigger reptile that took 23 bolts to finally bring down. Many of his men had also died, some from poison tipped arrows - the ambushes continued at regular intervals until Yin-Tuan discovered seven of his men had stolen and hidden gold plaques from the ruined pyramid. He executed them for deceiving him and bringing misfortune on them all, leaving the plaques with the corpses. There were no further attacks. [1a]

Seventeen days later they reached the sea but they also realised that they were not in the Southlands. To take his men’s mind of their predicament, he set them work building a new ship - a sampan - a task which was accomplished in only two weeks. They also built a raft for additional supplies and then set sail, again heading towards the rising sun. [1a]

Several weeks passed and they were running short of food, they sighted land - Yin-Tuan was now down to 73 sailors and soldiers. They made landfall and quickly found themselves in a similar jungle, again populated by lizardmen. The camp was attacked at dusk and overwhelmed, Yin Tuan being captured and brought before the Skink leader. Only one of his men, Tzu-Kwo had survived and together they were carried strapped to poles to a Temple-City before being confined in a dungeon. The next day they were taken before a Slann and Tzu-Kwo was thrown into a deep pit as a sacrifice. However as Yin Tuan was about to suffer the same fate, his ragged silk shirt ripped open to reveal the dragon tattoo on his back. [1a]

As the Lizardmen debated his fate, perhaps having mistaken his tattoo for a sign of Sotek he was again confined. He managed to escape using his relatively basic acrobatic skills and fled into the jungle. Yin-Taun managed to survive and stumbled through it for several days before he again reached the sea. There he discovered the fate of the great fleet his Emperor had dispatched - the shattered hulks scattered across the sands, intermingled with the countless bones of their crews. [1a]

He made camp and several days later was spotted by a trading junk of the Tei-Pings, well known spice traders. They had been looking for any survivors, all trading vessels having been ordered to do so by the Emperor after a second typhoon had destroyed the fleet at anchor. Yin-Tuan would prove to be the only survivor and on his return was received by the Emperor himself who ordered that his story be recorded for posterity. [1a]

Emperor Wu further rewarded him with command of the Palace Guard. [1a]
