Background
After the resurrection of Nagash, Neferata determined she would travel south in the World's Edge Mountains from Silver Pinnacle to the the Lost Archway of Valaya, where there was a source of power great enough to strengthen Nagash, who had been weakened by an imperfect ritual. [1a] However, on the way to their destination, Neferata's armies had to pass though Skull Chasm, a steep-sided canyon infamous for ambushes. Her armies had pushed many goblins into the chasm, who took refuge in the caves and abandoned mines that lined the chasm. Most of them were traveling south to join Skarsnik's WAAAAGH! at Karak Eight Peaks. [1a]
Grulsik, warboss of the Moonclaws tribe managed to whip the many goblins and trolls in the cavern into shape to meet the oncoming undead horde. He positioned many of his mobs in a battle line, but put more into the caves lining the side of the canyon. They were to attack the flanks and rear of Neferata's army. The undead column, meanwhile, continued marching methodically. [1a]
The Battle
Despite use of fanatics and shamans, the night goblins had little advantage near the beginning. Only on the right flank were they successful, due to several stone trolls. They managed to cut a path for the Moonclaw Squig cavalry to smash into the undead attacking the center. Neferata averted disaster by dispatching her trusted handmaiden Imentet, leading a second wave, into the center.[1] Just as the tide was turning against the greenskins, the goblins hidden in the caves came out to ambush the undead. This caused Neferata herself to enter the fray, even managing to kill a Chimera. However, she finally attained victory when a second undead host, lead by Krell, another Mortarch came to her aid.[2]
