Bog Octopus
The Bog Octopus is a curious creature found near Fauligmere and throughout the Cursed Marshes.[1]
They use their surprising strength to navigate through the mud and muck of the bog with ease, and are also capable of traveling for short distances overland, thereby moving from pool to pool within the swamps.[1]
They fear fire [3] and are usually unwilling to bring living creatures near its mouth, prefering its prey to ripen on the riverbed. [4]
Appearance
It closely resembles a regular octopus, but the ones near Fauligmere sometimes grow to be about the size of a horse, with their spiny, slick tentacles capable of stretching even further.[1] An average Bog Octopus has a six foot long body and tentacles about twenty feet long - but some grow much larger.[2][3]
Weapons and Defences
Although it lacks the ink-sacs and poison of the seagoing speciies, it has the same beak, the only hard part of the creature and which limits its ablility to squeeze through small spaces.[4]

Quotes
The Bog Octopus has fascinated scholars for many centuries. Grimblinnder believed it was created by a now lost civilisation. In The First Great War, he claimed to have found the following quotation carved into a fallen menhir in the Wastelands. "And the mighty eight-armed one was raised from the sea and made to guard our waste" This origin for the Bog Octopus is contradicted, though, by Liathalissen's epic treatise Aethyric Dominion, Falling Stars, Geomantic Construction and other Remnants of the Old Ones. Here Liathalissen suggests that the Old Ones themselves were responsible, claiming that "Tepok" waved his hands and the Bog Octopus was made. It was charged with patrolling the under passages/tunnels, as it have been gifted/designed with a body shaped for the purpose. Whatever the truth of the matter, the Bog Octopus is an anomaly sure to confound scholars for many centuries to come
