Corduin was the first Duke of L'Anguille and the twelfth of the Grail Companions of Gilles le Breton during the Twelve Great Battles that freed and unified Bretonnia.

After the death of Gilles, Corduin became the first "Hermit Knight", a duty many aged and weathered Grail Knights would later take up.

History

Corduin was the lord of the Bretonni of Castle L'Anguille and the surrounding lands by 977 IC, when Gilles le Breton began his campaign to free the lands of Bretonnia.[1c] It is believed that fair Theralind, beloved of Corduin, was turned into a raging sea beast by a jealous hag. Nevertheless, the purity of Theralind won out, and it is local myth that she guards the port still, her grief causing the treacherous storms that lash the coast. [1a]

Corduin joined the Grail Companions of Gilles after the lords of Bastonne, Mousillon, Lyonesse, Bordeleaux, Aquitaine, Brionne, Carcassonne, Quenelles, Parravon, Montfort, Gisoreux and Artois came to his aid during the tenth of the Twelve Great Battles.

Having triumphed in Castle Mousillon, the Companions spurred their warhorses to the north. After many long nights in the shade of the Forest of Arden, they arrived to Castle L'Anguille, city-fortress of the coast, and they hoped to find respite. But to no avail, as the grand port was embattled by crude Northmen, clad in pelt of fur and steel, and the Companions met them in a great tempestuous battle, joining the lord of the city, Lord Corduin. The siege was broken only after Lord Marcus of Bordeleaux defeated Svengar of the Skaelings in a duel on the top of L'Anguille's lighthouse.

After the securing of all the lands of the Bretonni tribes, a great meeting took place in the home of Folgar of Artois. Here, the formal dukedoms were created, and the Bretonnian calendar was introduced - thus, year 979 of the Imperial Calendar is considered year 1 of the Bretonnian one. Each of the great lords of the Bretonni, the fourteen Grail Companions, including Gilles le Breton, were named Dukes. The Dukes swore oaths of allegiance, and Bretonnia was formed.

Quotes
