Ancient Times

Thousands of years before any form of life emerged in the Old World far to the north, their was a race of men, desert dwellers. Originally, the Khemri empire was no more than roving bands of hunters. The land they inhabited was called Nehekhara and the kings were weak and had little control over their vast tracts of land.

The first, and greatest, king of Khemri was called Settra. In his reign he conquered the entire empire from the mountains to the sea. He united the people in cities, founding the great capitol of Khemri. They fought off the Greenskins to claim new land and defended against desert dwellers seeking to steal food and pack animals. He searched all his life for the cure to death, but eventually he was consumed and placed within a great tomb. Then followed various other kings until the time of Nagash.

Nagash in the Early Times

Prior to the time of Nagash, Nehekhara was at its peaks, its people wealthy and its lands beautiful. Nagash would change all of this. He was originally the High Priest of Khemri but he was obviously not glad of the power. He wanted more. He plotted to seize the throne from his brother and become King and High Priest. One night, he had the young king killed and placed in the tomb of Khetep. The next morning, he proclaimed himself king and sat upon the throne.

The reign of Nagash was one of pain and suffering for the people. He demanded total loyalty and massive tributes from the prices apointed to rule the lands. He summoned Daemons to do his bidding and was in total control. He had the Black Pyramid of Nagash built, towering over all others. Due to the high tributes, starvation racked the lands, but Nagash didn't care.

Eventually, the princes had had enough and rallied their armies to attack Nagash and Khemri. To defend against these invaders, Nagash summoned long dead warriors to do his bidding. This was the first time that the dead had walked at the command of another, and many were frightened into running from the battle. Eventually, after a titanic battle, Nagash was defeated. Many believed him dead and destroyed, but he had actually escaped to the north to plot his revenge, his black pyramid abandoned for hundreds of years.

Nehekhara gradually healed, but Nagash's touch had tainted the land and harmed the royal lineage. His magics also spread to other areas, the queen of Lahmia, who embraced the powers Nagash had sought. She also drunk from the Elixer of Damnation, extending her life indefinatly, but cursing her at the same time.

Fearing the wrath of the gods, Alcadizaar led the armies of Khemri against the forces of Lahmia. His hundreds of chariots raced across the plains and smashed Lahmia, sending the queen fleeing with her vampiric allies to the north. Nagash was hiding in the mountains to the north and gladly accepted outcasts from Nehekhara. He made them captains of his undead legions, and sent them south to conquer Khemri and all of Nehekhara. The next years were scarred with war and strife, destroying the land. Nagash underestimated Alcadizaar, and as such his forces were pushed back and destroyed, but Nagash still walked.

Vengence of Nagash

Nagash, in his anger, sought all life to be extinguished, and so he poisoned the water and tainted the lands that brought forth the food the Nehekharans needed. Pestilence spread rapidly and the dead soon outnumbered the living. Alcadizaar could do nothing, for he could not fight this enemy with weapons. Then Nagash struck again, easily outnumbering and destroying the near dead defenders.

It was after this that Nagash began the greatest spell of all time. The skies darkened for miles around and a great wave of energy left his body. All life was destroyed in seconds, crops withered and animals died. Now Nagash planned to raise the dead to make an all conquering army, easily enough to overwhelm any forces. Unfortunatly for Nagash, he had kept Alcadizaar alive and, with the aid of certain hunched creatures, he escaped from his prison cell. He staggared to the throne room and fought with Nagash until he eventually killed him. Now Alcadizaar leaves the history books, possibly due to his seeing the destruction of his people and becoming mentally unstable, being the last living Nehekharan.

The Kingdom of the Dead

The long living Liche Priests were the only things left moving alive in Nehekhara. The spell of Nagash had affected the dead in the tombs differently, waking them from their slumber. It is now that the various tomb kings rose from their sleep and began reconquest. Great battles were fought for two days, until the great king Settra appeared. He soon destroyed many of the minor tomb kings, and eventually all of the remaining kings bowed their heads to him. He reconquered Nehekhara and vowed to watch for Nagash, the only person who could possibly remove his immortality. So it was that Nehekara became the Land of the Dead.

The Dynasties of Khemri

There have been seven dynasties in Nehekhara, beginning with Settra and ending with Settra. In between there were hundreds of tomb kings who all awoke after Nagash's spell. They are listed in the Dynasties of Khemri.

Nehekharan Gods and Goddesses

The Tomb Kings are very tightly linked with their gods, often a lot of their weapons are blessed by the gods, including The Blessed Blade of Ptra. They worship many gods, mostly related to animals of the desert, including the jackal and asp but also of nature, including a sun god. They are listed in Nehekharan Gods and Goddesses.

Treasures of the Necropolis

There have been many kings, each with their own special weapons, some better than others. Some of these pieces of equipment can be given to units in the army, mainly your characters. There is a wide selection of availbale Treasures of the Necropolis.

Legions of the Tomb Kings

Over the centuries there have been thousands, if not millions, of soldiers who died for their king. Each one of these now rise to serve their almighty masters. They consist mainly of the skelital soldiers, slow and pondering, but their overwhelming numbers make them very formidable. Nagash was the first to raise the undead to fight by his will, and he was the one to unleash the undead upon the world. Without Nagash, the Tomb Kings would still be dead, and the world a safer place. There are also a variety of weird and wonderful magical constructs, put together using the magic of death to form weapons of war. Some of these have devisating ranged powers, some are living representations of their gods, and some are horrific weapons designed to steal the very essence of a person, their sole. They are available for recruiting in the Legions of the Tomb Kings.
