Look, I don't know if this is difficult or not but could you please update the wiki? I don't know how why, but the <reference> formats work (only) if you log in first. It can't be very hard to improve the code. Aehren 16:22, 16 March 2011 (CET)

Well, it seems that almost all articles have been restored. We lost the edits of the last couple of days but I can live with that. However IMHO we should to restrict the move-command to administrators only (and we have to block the user/bot). If I find something wrong I will give you a warning. The 40,000 lex wiki needs your help. Aehren 10:42, 21 August 2011 (CEST)

Here are the user/bots (we have to block them - if they return they will return with other "names" but...)

Боевой Половой Член (Created on 21 August 2011 at 02:11) Военный Аналитик Хуесос (Created on 21 August 2011 at 00:38) Военный Командор Перфилов (Created on 20 August 2011 at 23:37) Китайский боевой Хазард-Коржиманов (Created on 20 August 2011 at 23:31) Командор Беккер (Created on 21 August 2011 at 01:32) Командор Вотяков (Created on 21 August 2011 at 01:06) Командор Новая Хронология (Created on 21 August 2011 at 01:43) Командор Фоменко (Created on 21 August 2011 at 01:50)

I restricted the "move" command so that registered users can't use it anymore. The spam users were deleted. The 40k Lex was restored, too. :) - Odysseus 11:29, 21 August 2011 (CEST)

One question; how can it even be possible to create an account on an English lex using non-English alphabet? How about we automatically block all usernames written in non-Latinic languages NTC3 12:53, 21 August 2011 (CEST)

Well, they can do it in the English Wikipedia so I suspect that it's a simply a matter of using the proper keyboard/font (the software probably accepts all characters). Your proposal: blocking all non-Latin usernames is unwise. Any vandal would merely create a Latin alphabet username (not very hard). Aehren 13:03, 21 August 2011 (CEST)

Maybe, but have you noticed that all the vandal attacks were linked to a specific Russian website and that many of their redirects/usernames were nothing but Russian swear words? I would say it was aimed at those able to read Russian and so disabling non-Latin languages would provide a strong deterrent to this kind of vandalism. And anyway, why would a rule-abiding user even want to have a username in a different language? By disabling non-Latin alphabets we lose nothing and gain a certain deterrent. NTC3 13:39, 21 August 2011 (CEST)

Well, it seems that you're able to read Russian but most of us are unable to do that. However a rule-abiding user might wish to have a "foreign" username for a number of reason (mainly because he simply 'likes a foreign name). Why should he pay for something that somebody else did?
Check the history of this wiki and you will find plenty users/bots with English/latin names which commited several acts of vandalism. Certainly, none of the prior acts were as sophisticated and damaging as this one but... the damage has simply nothing to do with the foreign alphabet. It has everything to do with ability and knowledge. Vandals will simply use a latin character name. Aehren 14:07, 21 August 2011 (CEST)
Restricting to latin-only user names etc. would help absolutely nothing. Spammers can simply pick other usernames. - Odysseus 14:46, 21 August 2011 (CEST)
