Ape

Apes are a family of related animal species which live in the Southlands and closely resemble primitive humanoids. That continent is home to a variety of creatures, from Humans to Lizardmen and Goblins. Among the strangest are several breeds of large apes. Though many kinds are simply animals, some are highly organized and intelligent, and use tools, weapons and cunning in attacks on the other inhabitants of the jungles. When pursued they vanish into the great rainforests' canopies.[1]

Despite the scant information available about the Southlands to those from the Old World, the most erudite scholars do have knowledge of their existence. At what point the apes are no longer just apes, but instead a breed of Beastman or even an obscure intelligent species in their own right, is never clear, and the uncertainty of whether a creature is staring back at the traveler with animal curiosity or savage Chaos-bred malice makes the jungles even more treacherous and disconcerting.[1]

Notes

The creatures on this page are never named as ”Ape-men” or “Apemen,” those only being the names given by readers for reference. Similarly the single source for their existence emphasizes they may or may not be related to Beastmen at all, and may even be figments of imagination.[1]
