Background

During the End Times the Glottkin were pronounced champions of Nurgle. They gathered a huge force together and crossed the Sea of Claws to invade the empire. They started by assaulting the free port city of Marienburg which put up almost no defense. The Marienburg merchant fleet attempted to stall the approaching fleet but made little impact and by using magic to destroy the city's impressive sea wall the invaders very quickly overcame the Marienburg defenders and their mercenary auxiliaries.

The battle only really began when the invaders met the forces of the city's 'Master of Shadows, Mundvard the Cruel, a powerful vampire lord who had been building up forces in the city's poor, dock district secretly for many years.

Stages of Battle

Undead

  • Mundvard summons the hidden caches of undead warriors he has hidden around the city over the years. They attack the Chaos force vanguard while the Suiddock beast prevents reinforcements from their Plague Ships reaching them.
  • Mundvard starts slaying the northerners piecemeal.
  • The Glottkin attack Mundvard. They beat him in combat and using the immense strength of brother Ghurk physically cast him from the city, way out to sea.
  • Without their general and animating force the majority of the undead army collapses in seconds. Only a few vampires and the Suiddock Beast escape.

Imperial

Aftermath

The total destruction of both the Imperial and Undead armies gave the Glottkin the freedom to begin a campaign of destruction across the Empire which culminated in the Siege of Altdorf. One of the few survivors of the battles was Mundvard who joined Vlad von Carstein some months later at the defense of Altdorf to take revenge on the Glottkin for destroying what he perceived as his city.
