History

In 1668 IC Count Herdred Hagstaf, Castellan of Fort Schippel [1b] had carried out a series of raid against the Beastmen that lurked within the Drakwald Forest, destroying a number of Herdstones. However the release of so much magical energy gave the opportunity for Deamons to manifest near the town of Kelp. Although weary from their battle against the Beastmen, the forces of the Empire were still formidable with elite troops drawn from three imperial states. [1a]

As thunder crashed above them, the Empire forces sought to defend themselves across the Krudenwald-Kelp road. The accurate cannon fire had some effect on the advancing Plaguebearers whilst the Knights of Sigmar's Blood and elements of the Teutogen Guard fought bravely to the last man against the Bloodletters. As the artillery position became in danger of being overun, the Jagenhauser regiemnt was ordered forward and fought hard against their unatural foes. As they held the daemons back, the cannons raked the Plaguebearers with grapeshot but then Father Necroth charged out of the gunsmoke, laughing and scything down the halberdiers with his vast iron flail.[1a]

A heroic charge by Count Hagstaf on his Griffon served as little more than a distraction with the Great Unclean One using a cannon to smash the warbeast repeatedly in the head. The huge Daemon of Nurgle loomed over the stunned count but was then attacked and torn apart by Skarbrand, perhaps enraged that the enemy commander would fall prey to another. [1a]

The short battle between the Greater Daemons gave Hagstaf time to muster all the remaining firepower and direct it at the winner of the duel. blasting it apart. Records of the battle note that the remaining Daemons were rendered much more vulnerable with the death of their commanders. [1a]

Following the battle, the Count took the head of Skarbrand as a trophy and it remained at his family home for eight years until it was lost in a sluaghter at his mansion. [1a]
