History
In 2515 IC after Ostland requested aid after being invaded by a Chaos horde from the north, The Elector Count of Averland Marius Leitdorf set forth to defeat the enemy, gathering soldiers from the settlements he rode through. However when he reached the walled town of Sudenheim, he was confronted by a army from Nuln and at a subsequent parley, the Bright Wizard Ludas Luddace so enraged him that Marius drew blades and attempted to slay him. [1a]
Ever since Grand Marshal Ludwig Gutman led his army out of Nuln he had found the campaign road hard going with constant delays plagueing the army as had never before seen. As they approached the town of Suddenheim, Gutman's chief advisor, the Bright Wizard Ludas Luddace reported that they were being followed by an army of cutthroats and bandits, led by the Mad Count of Averland. The army formed a battleline to protect the town of Sudenheim, lest the raging madman sack it! Following a meeting with Leitdorf he returned shaking his head, claiming the Count was stark mad, even attempting to duel with Ludas in a fit of rage. [1a]
Battle
The two disciplined armies of the Empire marched towards each other, the Averlanders opening fire first, Taal's Fury damaging the Steam Tank, Deliverance. The Nuln army retaliated by advancing with its infantry, opening fire themselves. As the battle raged, Leitdorf challenged the Grand Marshall and although Gutman fought bravely, even injuring the Count in the end his blade was no match for a Runefang. Shouting he has you fooled Leitdorf severed Gutman's head from his body. [1a]
As he did so, the Nuln flanks collapsed but they managed to hold the centre even as the Reiksguard crashed into spearmen, cutting a bloody swathe through them. Leitdorf spotted the Bright Wizard and, drawing his Runefang once more, called him out - Luddace tried to retreat but the prideful men of Nuln pushed him forward engage in single combat. The sorcerer manifested a glowing blade of shrouded in pink fire, but Leitdorf swiftly plunged his sword deep into his chest. [1a]
Yet the Wizard simply smiled, a look of triumph on his face and then changed into a gaudy pink Daemon, before blinking out of existence with a cackle. The transformation was witnessed by all in the swirling melee and the fighting ceased as the combatants realised that all but Leitdorf had been fooled by a minion of Chaos! [1a]
Following the battle, the victorious Elector Count would lead the survivors of both sides north to confront the invaders led by Sigvald the Magnificent. [1a]

Quotes
Men of the Empire, the Grand Marshal is being badly advised. I suspect treachery and the work of the great enemy. If we are to aid Ostland, we must fight through the blockade. Target their wizard, as surely he has bewitched the good men of Nuln!
