The Battle
Although Grom's army had been delayed first at Athel Tamarha and later in the forest, by the time the horde arrived before the city of Tor Yvresse, the elves had not used the time wisely.[2a] Political machinations had resulted in the appointment of Ferghal of the Iron Spear as commanding general and he, like many of his peers, believed that his own skill at arms and superior Elven weapons would swiftly grant them victory. [1]
As the battle raged, Argalen spotted his fathers bloody cloak around the shoulders of the Goblin Warlord and disregarding his magics, cut his way to the enemies chariot, vaulting up onto it to challenge him. The Goblin Warlord hacked the Elf noble apart, routing the Elves.[1][2a]
Bloody fighting raged from mid-morning to dusk and very few elves were able to retreat into the city. [1][2a]
