Lord on Shieldbearers

Dwarf Lords are wise, old and powerful Dwarfs who often lead Throngs into battle. Lords are of Royal Blood, related directly to the clan of the king of the Hold, or Karak, or even to the King himself.

As would be expected from such revered members of Dwarf society, they often carry runic weapons, armour and talismans forged for them by the craft of the Runesmiths.

Unlike Thanes, Lords have vast amount of experience in combat built up over hundreds of years. They are taught from both their elders and the Runesmiths and when the time comes for them to take their first command they will have been tested many times. They always have some of the largest beards among the Dwarf throng and are an example to be followed by others.

A Lord may be mounted on a large shield and carried by 2 very strong retainers, named Shieldbearers. The general of the army is the only Dwarf allowed to be carried in this way however it makes him into a much more formidable enemy than he already is.

A Lord also may carry an Oath Stone into battle and place it were he decides to stand and fight. Then he will climb onto the Stone which is inscribed with runes - a gesture which makes the other dwarfs even more stubborn then usual.
