The elected Emperor, also called Electorate Emperor [1], was one the claimants for the imperial throne during the centuries-long civil war of The Empire. They were elected in the traditional manner by the Electors from among the Elector Counts. It must be noted that many, perhaps even the majority, of the Electors simply boycotted these elections and that no elected Emperor was ever chosen or acknowledged by all the Elector Counts.

Their main rivals were the Ottilian Emperors, joined later by the Wolf Emperors, who passed their claims to the throne to their respective heirs in a hereditary manner.

This line of claimants came to an end in 1979 IC when the Grand Theogonist of Sigmar refused to acknowledge the election of the infant Countess Magritta of Marienburg.
