Handguns are simple black-powder weapons consisting of a metal barrel attached to a wooden stock. The user pokes a length of burning cord, known as a match, into a small touch-hole and ignites the black-powder. Some more advanced versions have levers and springs, which hold the match in place and release the firing mechanism. Others have self-ignition mechanisms (such as flintlocks), which remove the need for a match. Handguns have a long range, and can penetrate the thickest armour.1 p57

Users of Handguns

  • Dwarfs armed with handguns are called Thunderers, from the noise of their weapons. Their lead shot can take down a Troll, or a fully armoured knight.1 p180
  • In the Empire, handguns are often manufactured by skilled gunsmiths in Nuln. State Troops armed with handguns are named, rather unsurprisingly, handgunners.2 p37
  • During his reign, Tzar Boris Ursus of Kislev imported black-powder from the Empire.3 p14 As a result, Kislev Boyars can be armed with a handgun.3 p10
