Hordes of Chaos is the modern terminology for the army in Warhammer Fantasy Battles previously and frequently known simply as Chaos. The name is taken from the most recent Army Book which covers them.

The Hordes of Chaos army covers both the Mortal (Chaos Warriors and Marauders) and the demonic followers of the Chaos Gods: Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle and Slaanesh. A sister-army; the Beasts of Chaos is also produced which covers Beastmen as well as other Chaotic creatures such as Chaos Trolls, Chaos Giants and Dragon Ogres.

Mortals of Chaos

Mortals are what make up most of the chaos armies and are the most numerous and widespread of all chaos followers. Mortals are usually from the chaos wastes of the north. Most start out as Chaos Murauders, and it is not until they have found more favor in the eyes of the Dark Gods that they become full fledged chaos warriors or knights, from there some become mighty Daemon Princes, though most just become a gibbering chaos spawn, a thrice-cursed beast who is forever stuck in a state of chaos, only in death can it finally be put to rest, and that is all it exists for. Many mortals often align themselves with a particular god, and it shows. Slaanesh followers usually become very vain and self-obsessed, with an arrogance no normal man could ever achieve. Khorne followers seek to better themselves in battle, and often take great pleasure in cutting down enemy after enemy, and taking more skulls for the Lord of Skulls. Nurgle followers take on a great grossness, usually featuring bloated stomachs, rotting skin, and mank flies and soars covering their bodies. Stranger still are followers of Tzeentch, for they often have many mutations visted upon them, such as birdlike traits, or feathers, or even a strange general appearance, that seems to warp time itself.
