Jack O' the Sea is a legendary pirate now regarded as a aspect of the god Ranald in Sartosa.[1a]
History
The legend states that he was a young sailor whose ship was destroyed and whilst adrift and when he prayed to the gods for aid only Ranald answered. The trickster raised the island from the waves in a gout of fire and lava but this angered Manann and Ranald ordered Jack to gather plunder to placate the angry deity. To gain the required loot, Jack became a notorious pirate, taking up the name Jack O'the Sea.[1a]
Due to his exploits he was eventually regarded as an aspect of his patron god. [1a]
Statue
No one remembers who created the 20ft statue of a man holding a large bag that stands in the middle of the bay of Sartosa but it is beloved by the sailors and pirates of the city who will take a skiff to the rock and leave offerings. The statue is crudely formed with strange markings on the front and rear of the statue but no-one has determined their meaning. A few fools seek treasure beneath its base and risk a beating or worse by the people of Sartosa. [1a]
