Luminark
A Luminark of Hysh is an arcane battle altar of the Light Order. [2a]
A Luminark consists of a series of mirrors and lenses, resembling the innards of a vast telescope, mounted on a horse-drawn wheeled platform. At the structure's core lies an Orb of Sorcery. The Luminark is crewed by a pair of Acolytes, direct students of the Patriarch of the Light College. [1a]
When the machine is activated, the Acolytes begin to intone spells to focus the Wind of Hysh, while tilting, adjusting and polishing the Luminark's components. The spellwork causes the Orb to glow increasingly bright, until a burst of bright light bursts forth from it and passes through the complex optical array.[1a] This focuses it into a deadly flaming bolt capable of vaporizing anything in its path, which can scour through infantry or penetrate the hide of the toughest of monsters. [1a][2a] Additionally, Luminarks project an aura around themselves that protects allied forces and turns aside attacks directed at them. [1a]
The Light Order has a limited number of these devices, and uses them as part of the safeguards that keep dangerous and evil artifacts imprisoned in the Order's vaults. As such, the deployment of these engines to war is always a calculated and terrible risk for the Patriarch, as the loss of a Luminark would risk the weakening of these defenses and the escape of the evil that they imprison.
