Mortars are one of the artillery pieces created by the Imperial Gunnery School. It is more squat than a Great Cannon, and instead of solid iron balls it fires hollow shells filled with black-powder and with a fuse attached. If the shell is on target it will explode in the heart of an enemy formation, blasting red hot shrapnel in all directions. However, sometimes the fuse will go out before the shot is fired, meaning that the crew will have to waste time removing the dud shell. In a worst case scenario the fuse will be too short - causing the Mortar to explode and killing the crew.
