Nightravens are twisted birds that once plagued the Duchies of Artois, Bastonne and Gisoreux. [1a]

They dread light, only appearing at night and when the two moons are not in the sky. [1a]

History

Flocks of black-feathered Nightravens would descend to tear apart the unwary, able to reduce a person to bare bones in less than thirty seconds. These depredations were so terrible that the Duke of Gisoreux ordered fresh torches regularly placed before every home throughout the city. They were said to be destroyed around 2000 IC by the knight Sir Thorpas. [1a]

There are however stories that the Nightravens are not gone, but have become far more clever, taking victims in the depths of the Forest of Arden or in the Grey Mountains. Another disturbing story talks of a secretive witch cult that summons Nightravens to attack their enemies. [1a]
