Shortly after the end of the line of elected Emperors in 1979 IC the Counts of Reikland advanced their own claim to imperial throne.

Their claim was passed on in a hereditary tradition. It's likely, but unconfirmed, that this line of candidates withdrew their claim only upon the election and crowning of Magnus the Pious in 2304 IC.

Their main rivals were the Wolf Emperors, the Ottilian Emperors and the Elector Counts of Marienburg
