During the 1st Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, first published July 1983, Games Workshop produced two books:
- Warhammer, Rulebook 1st Edition, although called "the Mass Citadel Miniatures Fantasy Battle Game" and
- Forces of Fantasy, allthough called "a Warhammer Supplement".
The 1st Edition is called the "White Box Edition" by the hobbyists for its simple, plain white Boxes of the Regiments of Renown as well as for the book-shaped boxes of the Game Warhammer and the supplement Forces of Fantasy. They both contained each three seperat booklets.
A Boxed Game of Warhammer Fantasy Battles which inludes dices, miniatures and other gaming devices like it is used since the 4th Edition and Army Books where unknown during the 1st Edition.
