The fourth of seven editions of the Warhammer Fantasy Battles game released to date and the first to subscribe to the "Kirby formula" of product, whereby the rulebook was released as part of a larged boxed set including plastic models and terrain. 4th Edition also saw the introduction of Army Books, wherein all the heroes and units available to a single army would be listed in a separate supplementary book.
