Battle of Maledor was the final ground battle of the Sundering, the civil war of Elves of Ulthuan.[1a]

History

The bitter civil war between the Phoenix King and the Witch King over Ulthuan had been going for decades. Caledor I fought a cunning war of ambushes and counter-attacks. Yet neither side could secure a crushing victory. So the two kings faced eachother on the field of Maledor.[1a][2a][3a]

The Battle

Malekith launched an all-out attack with his numerous forces while the his wizards and the Sapherian mages fought mighty magical battles.[1a]

Yet his attack began to lose momentum, so the Witch King swooped down with his Dragon and charged the Elf host. His blade and the claws of Sulekh slew Prince Carvalon of Yvresse, Prince Finudel of Ellyrion and Prince Tithrain.[1a]

Then Caledor counter-attacked. Malekith and Sulekh dueled the Phoenix King and his dragon Maedrethnir. Caledor lost his sword and was thrown from his saddle as Maedrethnir was wounded and forced to flee. As the White Lions fled the spells of Malekith, Caledor was left alone amongst his fallen soldiers. With a defiant shout, Caledor took the the spear Mirialith from the fallen Finudel and slew Sulekh, piercing her head with the magical spear.[1a][2a][3a]

Malekith was thrown into the ranks of Phoenix Guard. He cut his way free but was forced to flee the field with a Black Chariot drawn by Cold Ones. Seeing their leader flee the day was lost and the armies of the Nagarythe withdrew. The survivors were driven to the marches. [1a][2a][3a]

Aftermath

The celebration of the victorious High Elves burned into the mind of Malekith. He understood that he could never claim Ulthuan: Asuryan, the princes and the common folk rejected him. He began gather his mages to make the preparations for the destruction of Ulthuan. [1a][2a][3a]
