The city of Quenelles is the capital of the Province of Quenelles.

As it is located near Athel Loren, it has always been associated with the mysteries and perils of the quest for the Grail. [3c]

Defences

The walls of the city run up to the treeline and then stop, the walls that were once there having been cast down around 1500 IC at the command of the Fay. [4a]

History

As the Red Pox ravages Bretonnia, the Skaven besiege both Brionne and Quenelles but both cities are saved by Duke Merovech of Mousillon, the Duke of Parravon and the elves of Athel Loren. [1a]

The armies of the Lichemaster and the Necrarch Brachnar fight in the hills near Quenelles in 2420 IC. [2a]

Wood Elf knights of the Kindred of the Willows arrive at the annual tournament and ask to joust for the challice and other artefacts they say are Elvish. the Bretonnians agree even when the Elves raise the stakes with the combats being to the death. [3a] However as the bouts continue, the Elves overpower the guards and steal the challice! [3b]

Locations

The eastern end of the city is a entertainment district filled with houses of ill repute, inns and taverns. [4a]

  • Castle Quenelles: A relatively modest structure at the northern end of the city. [4a]
  • Chapel of the Enchantress: A unique Grail Chapel that depict the Fay Enchantress rather than the Lady. [4a]
  • Tourney Field: A renowned setting lcoated outside the walls by the river Brienne. Along one side is the rostrum where the Duke and his children and the ladies of the city sit to watch the contest. The opposite side is where the peasentry squat to watch and the middle is divided by a hoarding. [3a]

Tournaments

They are held at mid-winter, mid-summer and harvest time to coincide with religious holidays and often a holy relic is displayed at the event as a prize. Consequently the tourneys attract more Questing Knights than any other and many Knights Errant also perform, seeking their spurs or the hand of a noblewoman. [3c]
