Rutgar
Rutgar was the youngest son of Count Wilhelm of Wissenland. [1a]
History
He had at an early age accepted that his older brother would inherit and foccused on becoming his right-hand man, training to become a warrior and seeking to bring honour to his family. [1a] Rutgar won a number of prizes at tournaments in both the Empire and Bretonnia including his Star Lance forged millenia before by the Elves. [1f]
An envoy arrived at court from Margraf Frederik, an old comrade of his father whose war against Orcs in the Border Princes had resulted in him claiming a large tract of land. The envoy further stated that he was seeking warriors to helm him secure the area and Rutgar saw this as a sign from Sigmar himself that he could claim his own territory. [1a]
His father gave his blessing and a retinue of soldiers to assist him and a large number of volunteers were quickly found to bolster his forces as well as peasants, merchants and craftsmen. A month later they set out for Black Fire Pass. [1a]
Arriving in the Border Princes, he refortifed a old Orc Stronghold itself built around an ancient tower, [1c] but was soon plunged into war with Grotfang Skab, the Warboss of the Iron Claw tribe. [1b]
As his followeres were working on the castle, a work party sought to uproot a Orc monolith on a nearby hill but it toppled and fell on those straining to pull it over! Ordering the other Idols to be left for now, Rutgar ordered captain Manfred von Bock to guard them. He also dispatched a messenger to Altdorf to seek advice about the idols from the Cult of Sigmar and the Colleges of Magic. [1c]
Some days after the Wizard Zorn arrived, a scout returned to Rutgar's camp to say a large warband of Orcs were gathering nearby. Rutgar dispatched Konrad with a cavalry force to drive them off resulting in the Battle of Troll Rocks. [1d]
His workers continued to progress on the fortifications but they were very far from complete when Grotfang Skab and his army arrived and charged towards the partially built settlement of Rutgarburg. [1e]
