The War for Cripple Peak was a brutal war fought for centuries between the Skaven and the forces of Nagash for possession of the vast warpstone deposits beneath Cripple Peak. [1a]

History

  • -1325 IC: The Council of Thirteen discover that there were vast deposits of Warpstone under Cripple Peak, they give Eekrit Backbiter command of a huge force of more than 50,000 Skaven from all the great clans. He was tasked with destroying the skeletons that were currently mining the stone and returning it to the council, where it would be divided among the clans. [1a]
  • -1325 IC: The Skaven attacked first the lowest mines, destroying the undead and only meeting token resistance as they reached higher levels of the mines of Nagashizzar, however they were counter attacked by hundreds of ghouls - the Yaghur followed by thousands of armed and armoured skeletons as Nagash became aware of the invasion. The Clanrats of Clan Morbus were forced into full retreat. [2b]
  • -1325 IC: As the undead fought deeper into the mines, resistance increased but Nagash reclaimed more than three-quarters of the lost territory. However, ambushes became more and more deadily until one huge counter attack nearly cut off the undead completely and they were forced to fight their way clear. [2b]
  • -1300 IC: Angered by the ongoing stalemate, Nagash counters a skaven ambush personally for the first time, slaughtering hundreds before they unleash primitive Warpfire Throwers on him and his warriors. He destroys them but retreats, leaving a blazing inferno in the tunnels and 3000 dead skaven. [2b]
  • -1300 IC: Grey Lord Velsquee arrives at the Skaven Under-fortress with a large army. [2c]
  • -1300 IC: The Skaven begin attacking the Forsaken villages, forcing Nagash to commit large numbers of troops to defend them.[2d]
  • -1295 IC: The Skaven begin attacking the Yaghur nests, destroying the largest hoping to draw out the undead [2d] but Nagash instead unleashed a poison gas against the ambushers. [2e] The skaven are not destroyed completely due to Eekrit and Eshreegar collapsing the mineshafts, the two lords barely surviving themselves. [2f] When recovered, Eekrit, following Lord Velsquee's advice attacks the towers and stores of Nagashizzar itself. Large numbers of reinforcements arrive from Skavenblight including from Clan Moulder and Clan Pestilens but are quickly used up in bloody assaults. [2g]
  • -1290 IC: As the Skaven continue to press the attack, Bragadh is badly wounded and Nagash unleashes his Bone Scarabs - tomb beetle constructs in desperation. [2h]
  • -1287 IC: Nagash loses mine shaft three, his last access to warpstone and must rely only his previously gathered stores of the rock. [2i]
  • -1285 IC: Nagash prepares his final gambit, an attempt to kill the leaders of the skaven attackers. [2i] He is nearly destroyed by Akatha seeking vengeance but she dies at the hands of a horde of animated skaven dead and Nagash is only prevented from killing Lord Velsquee by Eekrit and Eshreegar. Eekrit is granted command of the army once more and kills Hiirac. [2j] Half of the skaven army are killed and much of the stored food destroyed. Velsquue returned to Skavenblight to be healed and put the blame for the defeat firmly on others. Eekrit made sure that not only was the Grey Lord receiving a stipend of warpstone but that he was publicly thanked for his support and previous advice. He even paid for a orator to deliver a speech to the Council of Thhirteen on the anniversary of the expedition. [2k]
  • -1285 - -1265 IC: Clans Morbus, Skrye withdrew their support and warriors even as Nagash battered away at the skaven positions re-taking various mine-shafts until only one remained in skaven hands. [2k]
  • -1265 IC: Nagash sends a emissary to offer a truce and trade - warpstone for metal and slaves which Velsquee accepted. Eekrit is tasked with remaining to supervise the trade and spying on Nagash as Velsquee revealed that Qweeqwol had seen visions of the liche ending the world. [2l]
  • -1222 IC: Nagash creates a suit of magical armour and the Crown of Sorcery using warpstone and Gromril, sacrificing his remaining immortals in the process. [2m]
  • -1211 IC: Eekrit informs Velsquee that the powers of Nagash have grown considerably and there are much more dangerous undead in his army. The Grey Lord brings them a weapon that could destroy even the Great Necromancer in a case of enchanted lead and tells them to find a stupid bastard who's already dead to use it and fulfil Qweeqwol's prophercy.
