Waystones were set up by the Elves when they first discovered Athel Loren to act as a magical boundary. [1a]

They carved the stones with Tree Singer runes, guarding travellers aginst straying into the malevolent forest. Over the following millennia, they became overgrown but their runes remain potent and distinct. [1a]
