As the army of Sylvania, both living and dead advanced across the Empire, they were met in battle by a army of Ottilia III of Talabecland. As the two forces prepared for combat, Vlad sent word that should the men of the Empire surrender they would receive clemency but should they resist, there would be no mercy. In response the General commanding the Talabecland army ordered the attack. [1a]

Battle
Although initially the dead were cut down by crossbow fire and charges by the knights, many rose again and were joined by spirits and ghostly cavalry. The army of Talabecland was encircled with Vlad leading the final attack at the head of the Drakenhof Guard to cut down the enemy general's bodyguard, capturing Hans Schliffen. [1a]
Aftermath
Although many soldiers tried to surrender after their leader was captured, Vald kept to his word and all were slaughtered and then their bodies joined the hordes of walking dead. Enraged by the treatment of his men, General Schliffen broke free from his captors and struck off Vlads head with the vampires own enchanted blade! He did not live to enjoy his victory as Konrad von Carstein tore the general apart. [1a]
The remaining vampires argued over who would now command but eventually, Herman Posner, Baron of Waldenhof prevailed. However, that very night as Posner strutted at the head of the army, Vlad returned and although Posner begged for mercy, he was cut down without a moment's thought. [1a]
