Eyrie
The Eyrie is a fortress-monastery of Verena [1a][2] overlooking the southern end of Winter's Teeth Pass. [1b]
It has become one of the major collections of knowledge in the Old World and the sons of noble families in the southern Empire are often sent here to gain an education and some military training here. [1c]
In addition the monastery is required (as part of the land grant) to give information to travelers about the state of the pass and trade road. The Flagmaster of the Eyrie will hoist relevant flags to provide this service. [1e]

Defences
The buildings are solidly built from stone with tiled roofs whilst the approach to the Eyrie is a long, narrow winding track that takes hours to ascend. It culminates in a narrow stone bridge with no parapets which crosses a deep ravine. The stone gatehouse across from it also has a portcullis. [1f]
The library itself is protected by Guardian Spirits. [1i]
History
In the early 2400s IC, the Dwarf Loremaster Yazeran came to the Eyrie seeking refuge and used his skills to transform it from a collection of rough wooden huts to a formidable stone fortress. His work completed, Yazeran recited a prophecy to the monks and then fell into a coma, dying several days later. [1a]
The Conference of Nuln recognises the new fortress as a monastery of Verena in 2432 IC and a High Standard is created at the Eyrie's mother-house in Nuln. [1j]
In 2441-2 IC, the sculptor Angelo Fittorini carves two beautiful statues of the goddess from white Onyx gifted by the Dwarfs of Karak Varn. [1j]
Locations
Eyrie is built around a central courtyard, itself divided into five Squares (small paved open spaces) by the workshop complex at its heart. [1g]
- Square of Anger: Where the guards practice with their weapons. [1h]
- Square of Fear: Leads to the surgery. [1h]
- Square of Joy: Dominated by the statue of Yazeran. [1g]
- Square of Sorrow: Funeral services are held in the shrine to the west. [1h]
- Square of Thieves. [1h]
- Towers: Dual purpose lookout posts and lavatories/washrooms which overhang the edge of the rock face. [1h]
Library
The library is only open to the monks of Eyrie who do make excellent research assistants, however for a suitable donation, regular visitors can become lay brethren and have personal access to it. [1c]
It has ledgers in its library from 752 IC where a Nulner clerk complains of the petty thievery of the Magpie cultists - likely the Cult of Ranald. [2]
Notable
To become a monk of Eyrie, the applicant must be male, a follower of Verena and must donate at least half of their world goods. If their application is successful, they will enter as a initiate. [1e]
