Morghast

Morghasts are undead servants of Nagash. [1a]

History

When Nagash cast his spell of his great spell of desolation against Nehekhara, Ptra himself sought to destroy him with a burning column of light but this failed. He next dispatched his heralds, the Hammurai to slay him and for forty days and nights the divine warriors fought against him with sun-forged steel but they could not prevail. As the sun flared with their lord's impotent rage, Nagash reshaped their broken forms and minds into his own loyal servants - the Morghasts. [1a]

Nagash removed all traces of loyalty to Ptra and replaced it with complete devotion to himself, making sure they lacked the flaws that other sentient undead had such as arrogance or fear. When he entered Nehekhara he brought them with him and 300 of them fought at the Battle of Ashkaron. [1a]

After the Great Ritual had been performed and Nagash had been slain by Alcadizzar, some attempted to take control over the arisen Tomb Kings but were overcome and sealed into obsidian tombs when it was found that they could not be destroyed. Others had headed north and as the magics that animated them began to fade, the Archai ordereed their minions forge armour to channel magic into them. [1a]

Over the following centuries, their dormant remains were often worshipped in the ruins of fortress-crypts by Ghouls whilst Necromancers paid huge sums to claim them. When finally Nagash returned in the time of Sigmar, the magical energies were too low to sustain them and so he had to rely on other undead such as vampires and Krell to lead his armies. [1a]

When Nagash arose once more, the world was alive with raw magic and the Morghasts began to awaken. [1a]
