Teufel
The Teufel is a river in Reikland that flows from the Grey Mountains to Ubersreik and from there through Auerswald and Grünburg into River Reik at Castle Reikguard.[1]
The waters have distinct reddish hue caused by iron deposits in the mud and sil although stories tell that the colour is because of unending wars between Grey Mountain Dwarfs and Goblins. The river regularly overflows, particularly in springtime. High-built inns are common. Due it flowing mostly through the Reikwald Forest, Bandits are numerous. Road Wardens patrol the banks.[1]
The Grünberg Canal is a recent addition, finished in 2506 IC. It now takes much of Teufel's barge traffic into Altdorf.[1]
Reiker Marshes
Reiker Marshes is a treacherous march at the sluggish confluence of Teufel and Reik guarded by Castle Reikguard. Most dangerous portion is in the five-mile stretch at the end of the Teufel where it meets the Reik. Called ‘Leopold’s Folly’ after the Emperor who tried failed to dredge the red waters in order to make it safe for deep-drafted ships. Many avoid it and prefer to pay tolls to pass through the Grünberg Canal.[1]
