A calendar is a device used for keeping track of days, months, and years. Many different races in the Warhammer World use different calendars. Many calendars have a "zero event", an event that marks the year zero in the year numbering system.

Calendars in the Empire

Imperial Calendar

Main Article: Imperial Calendar

The Imperial Calendar (IC) is the most common calendar in the Warhammer World, and most Games Workshop publications use it. Most of the nations in the Old World use it. Its zero event is the crowning of Sigmar. It is currently 2522 according to the Imperial Calendar. [1]

Celestial Calendar

The Celestial Calendar is only used in the Celestial College of Magic in Altdorf. It is confusing and complex. However, it can be used to predict when the Twin-Tailed Comet will return.[2]

Draconic Calendar

The Draconic Calendar, also called Ecliptic Year, is only found in certain corners of the Empire. Its years are the amount of time between when Mannslieb eclipses the sun.[3]

Lunar Calendars

The Lunar Calendars are also found on occasion in the Empire. The Lunar Calendars are based off the phases of the Warhammer World's twin moons. Calendars based off Mannslieb are simple enough; they contain 16 months of 25 days each in one year. However, Morrslieb calendars are completely impractical because the Chaos Moon is so erratic. Months can last for a few days or an entire season.[4]

Calendars in Bretonnia

Bretonnian Calendar

The Bretonnian Calendar is used exclusively in Bretonnia. Its zero event was the formation of Bretonnia by Gilles le Breton, in 978 of the Imperial Calendar. When the calendar was set up by Gilles, it was already year 1. Currently it is 1544 in the Bretonnian Calendar. [5]

Kislevite Calendars

Gospodar Calendar

The Gospodar Calendar is the main calendar used in Kislev. It is used by the Tzarina. Its zero event was the founding of Kislev City in 1524 IC, making the current year 998.[6]

Ungol Calendar

The Ungol calendar is only used by the tribes in the far north of Kislev. Its years are called Urtza. One Urtza is four years in the Imperial Calendar. The zero event is when Ursun was said to have awoken, about 500 years before Sigmar. There is some amount of variation between tribes, so while some might say it was 755, others might say it is 756.[7]

Elven Calendars

High Elf Calendar

The calendar used by the High Elves of Ulthuan is a bit more complex than those used by men. The year is marked by the year of the Phoenix King's reign. Since it is the 359th year of the reign of Finubar, the eleventh Pheonix King, the current year is written as XI, 359. [8]

Wood Elf Calendar

Very few Wood Elves bother to keep track of the time. However, those who do use a calendar similar to the High Elves. However, instead of the reign of kings, they use vague "seasons." The current season is the sixth.

  • Season of Rebirth: IC -1500--1095
  • Season of Withering: IC -1094--625
  • Season of Revelation: IC -624-1116
  • Season of Retribution: IC 1117-1702
  • Season of Redemption: IC 1703-2007
  • Season of Doom: IC 2008-present

The current year is VI, 515[9]

Dwarfen Calendars

Dwarf Calendar

The Dwarf Calendar is a simpler calendar. Its zero event was in -4523, when Valaya founded Karaz-a-Karak. The current year in the Dwarf Calendar is 7045.[10]
