Gameplay
The first edition of Blood Bowl employs a modified version of the second Edition rule set for Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Players (referred to as 'coaches' to avoid confusion with the players in the team) take it in turns to move, pass and tackle before the opposing team does the same, with the aim of getting a player in possession of the ball into the opposing team's Endzone, thus scoring a touchdown. The first team to gain three touchdowns wins the match.
Each team is formed of fifteen players, of which eleven may be on the field at any one time. Players are represented by cardboard stand-up counters with gameplay taking place on a gridded cardboard pitch.
