The Purple Hand is Chaos Cult of Tzeentch dedicated to overthrowing the Empire in which it resides. [1a]
Organisation
Members of the cult have a small tattoo of a purple hand somewhere on their body. [1b]
The Cult operates with a regional cell structure. It has cells in all of the major cities of the Empire with the leaders based in Nuln. The cells tend to work independently due to the distance between them but will on occasion receive orders from their leaders. [1a][3]
Within each cell, the cult is divided into three governing self-contained ordos which all report to a magister magistri.[3]
- Ordo Novitiae is responsible for recruitment and indoctrination. [3]
- Ordo Impedimentae is responsible for fundraising and resources. [3]
- Ordo Terribilis is responsible for research and developement. [3]
On each Geheimnisnacht and Hexensnacht, the leaders of each ordo hold a Conclave. They sing praises to Tzeentch and, discuss their plans and perform human sacrifice. [3]
In Middenheim Ordo Terribilis innovates new magical technologies while in Altdorf cultists focus on weaponising information. [3]
Rumours
According to rumours, Purple Hand is manipulated by the dreaded Cabal that also influences the Red Crown and Withering Eye and many hundreds of other cults across the world. The leader of Cabal is the greatest arcane traitor of all time: Egrimm van Horstmann who once was the Patriarch of the Light Order but now is a Chaos Sorcerer Lord of Tzeentch.[3]
History
Since the Great Chaos Incursion, the powerful Lord of Change Sheerargetru "inspired" the creation of the cult, infiltrating the dreams of ambitious Imperial citizens and luring them to the worship of Tzeentch in search of attaining mortal power. [5][6]
In true Tzeentchian fashion, they seek to bring the Empire to its knees by infiltrating positions of power. So far they have members in both the Cult of Sigmar and the Cult of Ulric, and are working to encourage the theory of the "Sigmarian Heresy" in order to put the two factions at each other's throats. Their more pressing and immediate concerns however are dealing with other Chaos Cults, who have their own ideas of how to further Chaos in the Empire.
The Purple Hand was responsible for the plot to destroy Bögenhafen by hordes of Horrors of Tzeentch, summoned in the sewers under the city as well as for the plot against the court of Boris Todbringer, the Elector Count of Middenheim. After the Storm of Chaos the cultists in Middenheim regrouped and tried again to soften the defenses of the city that had survived Archaon's siege.
Notable
- Kastor Lieberung, Magister Impedimentae. [1a]
- Merga, Chaos Sorcerer sent into Mordheim.[2]
- Yann Zuntermein, the Magister Magistri of Altdorf and head of Ordo Terribilis. [3]
Status
The cult is most widely spread and successfull Cult of Tzeentch in the Empire. [3]
It is proscribed in the Empire and operates in independent cells that have nearly no contact to other bands of cultists.[3]
