Goblin Squig Herder
Squig Herders are Goblins who command vast hordes of Squigs in battle.Needs Citation
The Night Goblins make extensive use of Squigs in battle, being one of the few creatures beneath the World's Edge Mountains whom the goblins can tame (somewhat) effectively. These squigs are either herded towards the enemy, or in the case of the most hard-case gobbos, ridden into battle.[2a]
Herders can become very skilled as ineptitude tends to get them swiftly killed and gain considerable reputations within their tribes and beyond. They may even display their abilities through bare-back Squig Riding, Squig Pit Leaping, Squig Wrestling and Tunnel Racing.[3a]
In Battle
One-on-one, a Squig is no match for the likes of a Slayer or Ironbreaker. The problem isn't the match, it's the numbers. The toothy embrace of a pack of Squigs has brought down many a hearty warrior, and a Squig pack is never more effective than in the hands of an expert Herder. Using tools ranging from pipes to goads to bits of giblets, the Squig Herder drives his minions into a killing frenzy while fighting safely behind the lines. The Herder's own ranged fire combines with the attacks of his minions, challenging any foe.[1]
Herds of Squigs are encouraged with firebrands, pitchforks and drums to charge the enemy.[2a] as they do not like light which hurts their eyes and drives them into a frenzy with the pain. The herders use their prodders to drive them forwards and they will smash into the enemy, biting and gnashing at everything they can reach. This attack is often followed up by net teams to ensnare and club enemies senseless.[3b]
