Xathrodox, the Red Flayer is a Daemon of Khorne. The nearest approximation to pronouncing his name is Zath-ruh-dochs.[1a][1b]

History

He drew the attention of Khorne as he fought on the eternal battlefield of the Chaos Wastes, growing fearsome and mighty as he amassed a large army. He led them in search of the Meadows of Khorne where he could spend eternity fighting for his god. A century later he reached the Bastion Stair but his generals bickered amongst themselves and battle erupted with the fighting continuing until all were slain. The Chaos Champion himself suffered a mortal wound but before his died Khorne gave him a final blessing, transforming him into a Daemon.[1a]

Favoured by the Blood God, his arrogance and power grew until he drew the wrath of Khorne who pinned him down with his boot heel and tore his essence into three parts. Each was placed into a different artefact - a chalice, a dagger and a brass skull and given to mortal champions to spread bloodlust through the world.[1a]

Insane beings called Bloodcursed[2b] were known in the years after the Storm of Chaos to inhabit the burial mound of Khornate champion Kazron Gorespite, who died fighting alongside Asavar Kul against Magnus the Pious in the Great War Against Chaos. It is likely they are drawn to that tomb deep in the Drakwald by the presence of the powerful Chaos daemon Xathrodox the Red Flayer imprisoned within the artifact known as the Brass Skull, which was buried alongside its owner by Gorespite’s devoted warband.[2a]

Artefacts

His essence is split between the following artefacts:[1a]
