The Rumour is a Pirate brigantine commanded by Captain Luka Silvaro of the Reivers. [1b]
She is a fast, agile ship. [1b]
The Rumour is one hundred paces long, weighing two hundred tonnes and mounting twenty guns. She has two masts and is painted black except for a red line that covers her gun ports. Her figurehead is a woman, painted gold with one hand cupped to her ear, the other to her mouth. Her gun deck is red-washed. [1b]
Weapons
She has six cannon and three culverins on each side along with two sakers placed as stern chasers. Her cannon are laid up on wheeled trucks allowing them to be easily dragged back inboard for reloading. Rather than the more dubious bulk-barrelled gunpowder which was often diluted with ash-mix and prone to misfire, Silvaro insisted upon pistol powder, which though much more expensive, was finely milled and purer.[1b]
