Khetep was a king of Khemri and the father of Nagash. [2d]

History

He was the vizier and regent for Queen Rasut's infant son but when the child died of a sudden fever shortly after his mothers death, Khetep assumed power immediately, and proceeded to use the power of Nehekhara for his own glorification. He began the 3rd Dynasty.[2d]

He married Sofer [2b] and was the father of Nagash and Thutep.[1]

He had the Great Pyramid of Khetep built within the Necropolis of Khemri, taking one million slaves twenty five years on the order of their king to construct. This acted as a beacon, showing the rest of Nehekhara that Khetep was all powerful.[1] The work had begun on the day Khetep became King and he had the chief architect strangled and entombed when it was completed. [2c]

All of the kings of Nehekhara bowed to Khetep in his time, and a golden age like never before was thrust upon the people. [1]

Khetep was killed in battle against Zandri in the 44th year of Khsar the Faceless (-1968 IC) and was laid to rest in the House of Everlasting Life, carried there by the Ushabti who had failed to protect him. [2a] His wife joined him in his tomb, taking poison before she was led within to be wrapped and put in her own sarcophagus. [2c]

After the King's death, his son Thutep succeeded him.[1]
