Lady Ember Vaingloire is a Dark Elf Sorceress. [1a]

She is breathtakingly beautiful, cruel and ruthless. [1c]

History

Ember and her sisters too part in a unsuccessful raid on the province of Brionne but their forces were met by a Bretonnian army ten times its size, having been forewarned. The Dark Elves were slaughtered but Ember and her siblings managed to escape the knights of the Lady, using their magic to disguise themselves as nuns - however they were pursued to the borders of Athel Loren. [1a]

They fled past the standing stones that marked the border, hoping that the knights would not breach the treaty of Quenelles - in this they were correct but shortly after entering the wood, three of Ember's sisters were struck down by elf-arrows. By dawn the next day, Ember was alone. [1a]

As she stood fearfully in a glade, a Elf riding a Dragon descended from the skies and landed before her - knowing her death was upon her, she summoned all her pride and stared balefully at the Wood Elf Lord, Elandro. However, mistaking her hatred for a maidens courage, Elandro bade her depart the forest in peace. [1a]

However by accepting quarter from the enemy and leaving her sisters to rot in the woods, Ember had brought shame on her family. She was tormented by her ageing father on her return and vowed to return to Athel Loren and burn it and the Dragonrider who had showed her unwelcome mercy. [1a]

She led a army across Bretonnia to the outskirts of the Meadow Glades, bringing many ways - mundane and magical to burn the woodlands. [1b]
