Clar Karond
Clar Karond, the Tower of Doom is one of the six great cities of the Dark Elves in Naggaroth. [1a]
The city is the main shipbuilding centre for the Dark Elves, a vast sprawling city surrounded by a forest of black pines where slave gangs harvest the timbers for the dockyards.[1a][4a] It is linked to both Hag Graef and Naggarond by underground tunnels, a safer route than across the ice filled Sea of Malice or above ground.[3b]
History
Clar Karond was founded after -2200 IC, after the Sundering of Ulthuan and the death of Phoenix King Caledor I. It was linked to both Hag Graef and Naggarond by underground tunnels, a safer route than across the ice filled Sea of Malice or above ground. It became a port for Corsair vessels, growing quickly and Malekith ordered a shipyard constructed. Within twenty years, ship from Clar Karond overnumbered those of Naggarond and Hag Graef. [3b]
Prosperity brought troubles. Cults of both Khaine and Pleasure arose in the city but that of the God of Murder became dominant, often rampaging through the streets, killing and maiming. Malekith took the opportunity to proclaim himself the mortal incarnation of Khaine, supported by his mother who supplied the cult with Cauldrons of Blood, although she kept the primary cauldron for herself in Ghrond. The most aged and powerful of the Hag Queens discovered that they were dependent on her. [3b]
In preparation of the Great Chaos Incursion, Morathi had convinced tens of thousands of human Marauders to serve her son. They traveled from the northern wastes to the shores of Sea of Malice where warships had been made for over the previous winter. In 2301 IC the combined Dark Elf and barbarian armies then invaded Ulthuan once again, only to be defeated after the Battle of Finuval Plain.[3c]
End Times
Around 2524 IC, Naggaroth was invaded by vast armies of Chaos led by Valkia the Bloody and whilst the Gorequeen herself was later defeated by Malekith, her forces had already laid waste to the city of Clar Karond.[7]
Locations
The streets have become maze like as the city expanded through the harvested forest, crossing rivers and with fortifications constantly being built to protect the inhabitants from each other as much as exterior enemies. [4a]
Notable
Like Karond Kar the city is famed for its Beastmasters, having first tamed the Cold One for the knights of Hag Graef and the Kharibdyss. [4a]
- Anethra Helbane: Ancient sorceress. [3a]
- Furion: He created the Crown of Black Iron and his later writings teach the Path of Darkness. [2b]
- Kaladhtoir: Author of the Sixth Book of Secrets. [2a]
- Mengil Manhide: Infamous Mercenary. [6]
Religion
There are many shrines to Khaine but even they are outnumbered by those to Anath Raema, the goddess of the savage hunt. [4a]
Contest of Claws
There is great rivalry between the Beastmasters of the city and those of Karond Kar and this comes to a height in the annual Contest of Claws with beastmasters from each city competing directly against each other. All kinds of tactics and creatures are used both during the battle and before with assassinations not being uncommon. [4b]
Symbols
The Kraken is the personal emblem of Lokhir Fellheart, the Krakenlord whilst Beastmasters often use the Hydra or a snake. [5a]
