Eustache of the Rusting Blade is a former Knight of the Realm of Gisoreux in Bretonnia and is now the champion of Mallobaude. [1a]

The nickname he uses he took to remind him he still has much to learn about the art of death. [1b]

Appearance

Once considered strikingly handsome, he has hooded eyes and a hawk-like nose, his expression almost always twisted into a sneer. [1a]

Heraldry

He used his father's arms - a white fleur-de-lis and boar on a quartered red and white field but he no longer wears them. [1b]

History

Eustache is the son of a minor knight of Mousillon and his potential to to become an exceptional warrior was marked out at an early age. He was sent to the Duke of Gisoreux's court becomming an Knight Errant and riding out to fight Orcs in the Grey Mountains. [1a]

The most experienced of his weapon tutors were confounded by his growing skills and he quickly became renowned as a relentless knight. However when he was hunting outlaws in the mountains, he found a group of mercenaries in the pay of the Nordland noble in his lord's territory. He cut most of them down and the rest fled, risking war between the two nations. [1a]

The Duke of Gisoreux and the Elector Count of Nordland agreed he would be tried as a criminal to avert war but Eustache would not be thrown away in such a manner. He killed his captors on the way to Nordland and fled home, discarding the Knightly code. [1a]

He became a sell-sword, his superior skills only just compensating for the lack of coin in the Duchy. It was then that Mallobaude approached him, telling him of his vision of the Grail and the bitter Eustache became his pet killer and occassional messenger. [1a]
