Lambard was the first Duke of Carcassonne and the sixth of the Grail Companions of Gilles le Breton during the Twelve Great Battles that freed and unified Bretonnia.

History

Lambard was the lord of Carcassonne in the time of the Twelve Great Battles of Gilles le Breton. He joined the Grail Companions after their deliverance of Castle Brionne, as they made their way through the shattered lowlands of Carcassonne towards the land of Quenelles. Grim Lord Lambard of Carcassonne spied the banner of the Lady of the Lake and came to their side, and together they fought their way through armies of Goblin Wolf Riders. The Companions held true, and after several weary nights the shadow of great Quenelles did fall upon them, but rejoice was denied: they were greatly vexed to sight the borders of fair Athel Loren aflame. Lambard then took part in all of the subsequent Great Battles.

After the securing of all the lands of the Bretonni tribes, a great meeting took place in the home of Folgar of Artois. Here, the formal dukedoms were created, and the Bretonnian calendar was introduced - thus, year 979 of the Imperial Calendar is considered year 1 of the Bretonnian one. Each of the great lords of the Bretonni, the fourteen Grail Companions, including Gilles le Breton, were named Dukes. The Dukes swore oaths of allegiance, and Bretonnia was formed.

The sword was first adopted as heraldry of Carcassonne by Duke Lambard in respect of the culture of his forefathers. For hundreds of years, the sons of Carcassonne have been given a newly forged birth-sword that they are made to touch as soon as they are born, and it hangs over their cot until such a time comes when they can wield it.

Quotes

Tales are still told of how Lambard stood alone against hordes of Orcs and saved his Dukedom of Carcassonne. Steeled by his bravery, men who fought alongside him would fight with the courage of Gilles himself.
