This article is about the Bretonnian King during the War in the Border Princes; for the King Louen Leoncoeur ruling between 2500 - 2523 IC, see Louen Leoncoeur. |
Louen Orc-Slayer was the King of Bretonnia between at least 2201 and 2276 IC. [1] [2b] Having ruled close to 80 years, he was hailed as the second greatest king of Bretonnia, only Gilles le Breton besting him in wisdom and skill in arms.[2b]
History
Before becoming the King, Louen had been a successful Grail Knight.[2b]
He ruled from his home province of Bastonne, just as Gilles Le Breton did. [1][2b]
In 2201 IC he declared a crusade against Orcs in Bretonnia. [2a]
By 2241 IC he felt that he did not deserve his epithet.[2c] Waaagh! Durgath had invaded northern dukedoms and Couronne had been sacked in 2239 IC.[2c] L'Anguille was next target of an attack.[2c] In Battle of L'Anguille Plain King Louen faced Warboss Durgath Spine Cracker and routed the undisciplined Orc horde.[2c][2d]
Massive Waaagh! Spine-Cracker had attacked northern Bretonnia from the Pale Sisters in 2276 IC just as the War in the Border Princes began.[3a] Hearing the alarm from Sir Cecil Gastonne the Wyrm Slayer, King Louen ordered his southern dukes help the exiled knight against Settra the Imperishable.[3a] Following his the words of his liege, Duke Gastille, the Red Hand of Brionne, declared an Errantry Crusade and rode to the Border Princes.[3a]
By 2300s Orcs had been driven from Bretonnia. [2a]
