Errantry Crusade
An Errantry Crusade is when a large force of Bretonnian knights ride to war in a faraway land. [1a]
Knights Errant are especially drawn to Crusades as they seek a task to prove their worth to their lords. [1a]
Crusaders Vow
- To journey far beyond the borders of Bretonnia into the lair of my foe. To take the battle to enemies of the Lady of the Lake wherever they might linger. This is my sacred vow. [1c]
Heraldry
As knights from many realms ride together into battle, they often adapt their own heraldry to include symbols of their purpose. [1b]
History
The first crusade took place in 1448 IC after news had reached Bretonnia that Estalia had been invaded and was unable to resist their enemy. Most of the lords of Bretonnia were disinclined to ride so far away but this changed when King Louis the Righteous gave permission for several Knightly Orders of the Empire to cross the realm to aid Estalia. [1a]
The Dukes now petitioned their ruler to gather their armies and ride south and he agreed, sending out a call to muster at Aquitaine. The first Crusade was a great success, with the combined armies not only driving off the invaders but also pursuing them to their homelands. [1a]
Many crusades have been called since then. [1a]
