Nautilus
A Nautilus is a experimental class of submarine of the Dwarf Navy. [1]
Dwarfs can volunteer for duty on a Nautilus as an alternative to becoming a Slayer as casualties are so high. [1] The King of Barak Varr, Zamnil Grundisson has formally agreed that submersible service is a alternative to taking up the Slayer's oath and this has been taken up by Dawi from beyond his hold. [3b]
Capabilities
A Nautilus can safely dive to around 30 yards which it can remain at for about an hour before needing to surface for at least three times that time to replenish its air. [3b]
Crew
Around 20 Dawi will man a Nautilus. [3a][3b]
History
Mungrun Steelhammer, formerly an apprentice to the legendary Hengist Cragbrow built the first Nautilus. [2]
He accompanied an expedition by Estalian privateers to Lustria in one of his submersibles, hoping to explore the sunken city of Chupayotl. His charts were able to direct the fleet to its location but only one Dwarf survived to return, rescued thirty years later from an Arabyan galley. All he would speak off was webbed claws and great, black eyes. [2]
Notable
- Captain Logazor Nihmok and the Hammer of the Sea.[3c]
Weapons and Equipment
It is capable of sailing underwater for short distances and launching torpedoes at enemy vessels, whilst on the surface it can use its turret mounted cannon. [1]
- Clockwork Torpedoes: A spring drive copper tube with an explosive warhead capable of crippling most vessels it impacts with. They can only be fired whilst the Nautilus is submerged. [1]
