The Glotkin

The Glottkin are triplets and Champions of Nurgle that attacked the Empire during the End Times.[1a]

Brothers

History

Origins

They were born to Ethra Greenblood, a sorceress and Ollos Glott a farmer of Nordland who had sought to bring enlightenment to the Norse. After a jealous Norse woman cut Ethra's finger with a rusty knife, it grew infected and in desperation she begged the gods for aid - Nurgle answered and her children were born with the mark of the plague lord.[2a]

The triplets grew up strong with Ethrac joining his mother in using magic to coax life from the ice fields in contrast to Ghurek who was more interested in the local women and brawling. Despite the best efforts of Ethra and Ollos, the Norse were not interested in abandoning raiding and so in 2506 IC they faced a retaliatory attack by the army of Nordland.[2a]

In the ensuing battle, most of the people they had grown up with were killed including both of their parents but as they cried out for vengeance, they were filled with the power of the Plague Father and shattered the attacking army.[2a]

Over the following years, they were granted many rewards by Nurgle - Ghurek became a massive spawn-thing on which his siblings would ride into battle. Otto most embraced his destiny with a taste for carnage and the magic used by Ethrac became much darker and fouler.[2a]

End Times

Glottkin

As Archaon the Everchosen gathered his forces he noted that he had Champions of three of the gods of Chaos to lead their forces - Sigvald, Valkia and Vilitch. However, he was all too aware that he lacked a leader for the forces of Lord of Decay[Note1] so he traveled into the Chaos Wastes in search of the Brothers Glot. He determined that he would send them at the head of three mighty armies, each carrying one of the trio of plague jars that Ku’gath Plaguefather had just given him.[1a]

The Red Reavers had assailed the triplets at the Dead Man's Shrine[1b] but found the servants of Nurgle more than a match for those of the Blood God. The marauders were slaughtered in droves until Archaon arrived and shouted "ENOUGH!", his booming voice causing the fighting to immediately cease and the three brothers to kneel in deference. [1a]

After pledging allegiance to the Everchosen, they returned to the Fjordling tribe, Otto slaying the would-be usurper Eofric the Giant. Rune-casters and shamans of many tribes saw their return in their dreams and castings and so dozens of warbands marched to meet and join them, quickly swelling their army. They hammered three nails, one for each triplet into bannerpoles and staves to declare their allegiance.[1b]

By dragging a captured mutalith to the lair of Gutrot Spume as a gift, an alliance was formed. Gutrot would provide his fleet, the mightiest in Norsca to transport their army south across the Sea of Claws. The vast army that the Glottkin now lead included the Aeslings, Baersonlings, Bjornlings, Graelingss, Sarl, Skaelings and Vargs.[1b]

They sailed south, Spume defeating a High Elf Fleet with the aid of potent magics - the next day the armada split into three with the fleet commanded by the Glotkin heading towards Marienburg arriving at their target in the spring of 2525 IC. Alarm bells sounded as the plague fleet rose above the horizon and the city mustered its own formidable forces and readied their many batteries of cannon. So began the Battle for Marienburg.[1b]

It took less than a day to defeat the defenders of the city, both living and undead and now the ruins blossomed with new life. The next stage of the plan was outlined to the thousands of marauders - to destroy the cities of the southlanders and breed new life in their ruins.[1c]

Fall of Altdorf

Vs Bretonnian Knights at the Fall

They besieged the city of Carroburg which held out for several months but was finally overwhelmed when the grave-moss choking the River Reik formed a skin thick enough for the enemy to walk across.[1d] The same tactic was used at Altdorf where the Glottkin led the charge in the docklands and canal network,[1e] they were however countered by a heroic charge by the knights of Bretonnia led by Louen Leoncoeur himself, protected by the Lady from the ongoing storm of pestilence.[1f]

The forces of the Glottkin were pushed back by the knights, having already lost more warriors than had been anticipated at Carroburg and so the brothers led a counter-attack, smashing into the wedge of chivalry, killing many with magic and sheer brutality.[1f] The Glottkin pushed on to the Imperial Palace, cheered on by their followers[1g] where they were confronted by the Emperor, Kurt Helborg, Gregor Martak and Vlad von Carstein but none of them were a match for the empowered trio.[1h]

Otto himself used Karl Franz's Runefang and plunged it into his heart, killing the Emperor who called out [{Sigmar]]'s name with his last breath. But in that moment of triumph the skies were ripped open by a twin-tailed sphere of power that blasted away all the corruption of the plague god. As the resulting tornado of power faded, it revealed a reborn Karl Franz who smashed Ghurk with one swing of his golden hammer. Otto fared no better, blasted with a column of lighting and as the golden figure turned on Ethrac who desperately cast a spell that transformed the brothers into fat flies that fled.[1h]

Within the great rotting mansion of Nurgle, the flies found a home in three ceremac jars.[1i]
