Tor Elyr
Tor Elyr is the capital city of the High Elf Kingdom of Ellyrion. [1]
Locations
It lies just east of Eagle Pass on an inlet of the Inner Sea where the River Elyranath and River Irlana meet.[4a] The city is made up of a number of castle-palaces, created from the living rocky peaks, each linked to others by silver bridges forming a web of interlinked islands. [2]
The towers of the city are akin to ivory stalagmites with open bases whose summits are reached by spiral stairs - no paths of roads mar the grassland that stretches everywhere and on which wild horses roam freely. often with their elven companions. [4c]
- Palace: Shaped like a great amphitheater around a grassy expanse with six towers atop hundreds of slender pillars. In the centre is a grassy hill with a circular dark wood and silver stage at its summit. white runes carved into the turf and banner poles displaying the standards of the noble houses of Ellyrion. The back of the thrones of the rulers are carved with rearing horses and in the absence of the ruler a silver crown is placed on the seat. [4c]
History
The Sundering
During the initial years of the Sundering, forces of Morathi pushed into Ellyrion as it overran Chrace, although Tor Elyr held out. [4a] Alith Anar brought Princess Lirian and her son, the heir of Tiranoc into the land, being eventually welcomed by Princess Athielle. [4c]
Military
Soldiers of Tor Elyr often carry weapons crafted from Nightelm wood which resists dark magic, although during the Great Incursion, Malekith ordered the woods burnt down so that they could no longer craft such weapons, so these may be the last wielded. [1]
- Tor Elyr Redmanes: Spear armed regiments named after Aelin Redmane, the Reaver Princess and whose household boasts three such regiments, each defined by the colour painted on the field of their kite shields. [3]
Ships
Ships of the city have the figureheads of horses with golden harnesses.[4c]
