Eothlir Anar was a High Elf Noble and the son of Eoloran Anar, a Prince of Nagarythe. [1a]

Family

He was married to Maieth and their son was Alith Anar. [1a]

History

His father dispatched him to fight in the colonies so that he would understand war. [1a]

As Morathi grew more and powerful in Nagarythe following the departure of her son, Eoloran forbade his family from visiting Anlec but Eothlir tried to maintain the status of the family as much as he could. He gave refuge to various Princes of Nagarythe that had fled the capital but Maieth wanted to do more since they had half the warriors in Nagarythe. [1a]

He received an emissary from Morathi, Heliocoran Haeithar who demanded that they choose sides, either for the Queen or the Phoenix King, Bel Shanaar. After some discussion, some 3 dozen warriors accompanying Heliocoran attempted to enter the mansion causing Eothlir to angrily order the emissary to leave. A short fight ensued and the warriors from Anlec were killed or driven off with the aid of Prince Caenthras. [1b]

Eoloran and Eothlir summoned their allies to Elanardis including the Princes of House Atriath and House Ceneborn, mustering a force of nearly ten thousand troops but many had not responded or even turned their messengers away. At a gathering of the nobles and lords, Eothlir declared that they were not strong enough to march on Morathi but would stand firm should she send armies against them which caused much argument. [1c]

After word came that Malekith had returned, Eoloran called the Princes and nobles loyal to him to a meeting to discuss the return of Malekith and it was agreed to march from Elanardis to Ealith.[1d] On the march, Alith and other scouts discovered that several enemy armies were nearby, one consisted of at last 10,000 Khainites, a second could field some 5000 bows and spears from Anlec with scattered camps of cultists scattered in their path. Another council saw them debate continuing their attempt to assist Malekith or retreat to ensure the safety of their home - Eothlir and His father decided to attack the Khainites. [1e]

During the ensuing battle, he sought to capture the Herald of Khaine that led the cultists so his father could question him about Morathi's plans. He engaged him directly but Caenthras intervened and plunged Khiratoth through the cultists body, blue fire erupting from the spear and tearing his body apart. Although they were victorious, they retreated back to Elanardris having done what they could to aid Malekith who was retreating to Galthyr. [1g]

The following year, he, his son and his father met with Calabrian who bore messages from Malekith - Eothlir had formed an elite unit of veterans with whom he scouted the enemy positions - he called them the Shadows, and Malekith wanted them to infiltrate Anlec and open one its gates for his army. They moved through the lands ruled by Morathi, killing cultist whilst they slept to obtain disguises and finally reached the city after a perilous nine days. [1h] As they had been bid, Eothlir, his father, son and the Shadows played a pivotal role in the First Siege of Anlec and let the forces of Malekith into Anlec. [1i]

The next twenty years were peaceful and House Anar grew richer and more powerful, with Alith coming of age in a great ceremony in Elanardris where the young lord also announced his engagement to Ashniel. However not long after, Yeasir, commander of of Nagarythe and lieutenant of Malekith arrived with an escort and placed the lords of the Anar's under house arest under suspicion of supporting the Cults of Pleasure. Further bad news was to come when Caenthras announced his daughter would be moving to the court of Anlec and the engagement was postponed which enraged both Alith and Eothlir. The family agreed that Alith would travel to Tor Anroc and seek the aid of the Phoenix King. [1j]

The Sundering

It was not until after the Massacre at the Shrine of Asuryan that Alith returned home with Princess Lirian and her son, having rescued them from Tiranoc and Prince Yrianath who was now allied to Morathi. He informed his parents that not only had Yeasir died saving them but Caethras was also their enemy. [1k]

As the civil war began across Ulthuan, Eoloran and Eothlir led sorties into greater Nagarythe whilst refugees fled into Elanardris and they reformed the Shadows, with Alith now as their leader. Finally a bloodied herald reached them from the new Phoenix King, Caledor I and informed them the Dragons would not roused to war and that years were needed to buidl a force to fight against the trained veterans of Nagarythe. [1l]

It would be nearly four years before Caledor mustered an army and marched on the enemy but when they received the news, Both Eothlir and Alith argued to march to war, but Eoloran was worried that to do so would be leave their home defenseless and all the refugees. Eothlir agreed with his son and leaving those warriors who had fled from Chrace and Tiranoc to defend Elanardris, they gathered an army and marched to war. Near the marshes of Enniun Moreir - Dark Fen, Eothlir fought his last battle. [1l]

He was killed by Prince Kheranion riding a Black Dragon, impaled by a flaming lance, his last word telling his son to Flee!. [1m]

Weapons and Equipment

He used the magical golden blade, Cyarith, the Sword of Dawn's Vengeance. [1f]

Quotes

I have no concern who wears the Phoenix Crown and the feather cloak. It is stability and prosperity in Nagarythe that I fought for, not some wider goal.

~ Eothlir to Caenthras.[1j]
